OUR STUDENTS
Below are some quotations from students about the Administration and Supervision program:

When I embarked on the journey towards achieving my Ph.D., I knew that I would learn a lot about administration and best practices in management in higher education, which was my area of focus. I had no idea, however, how much knowledge I would gain and how that knowledge would change my daily business practices and my life. The courses I took at Gallaudet in Administration & Supervision, challenged me to become a better manager and a better leader. I am now armed with greater skills that have helped me identify, hire, and retain the right people, build great teams, communicate in different ways, and manage conflict. I would strongly recommend this program to anyone who is a current administrator.
As I prepare the final chapters of my dissertation, I am very grateful for the guidance of the entire Administration & Supervision faculty members. They have supported me every inch of the way in obtaining this degree.

The graduate program at Gallaudet University has allowed me to be proactive, to manage myself, to communicate better, and to maintain a sharper personal and professional focus. It has made me a highly qualified and effective teacher to my students and a better mentor to fellow teachers and educators. Some of my inner-city kids are shocked to learn, that I still attend school. This way, they see that learning is a life long process. Therefore, Gallaudet University has made me a better person to effectively to be of service to others. The only regret is that I did not enroll in the program earlier.

Making the gargantuan life altering decision to take a leap of faith and become a PhD student within this program has proved to be a paramount move for my life. I have not only benefited from an academic standpoint, but I have also been able to explore my past viewpoints, challenge my beliefs, and ultimately blossom into a thought provoking determined individual in both professional and personal avenues within my daily life. I would highly recommend this program to anyone whom wants to truly have the opportunity to explore the world around them and most importantly themselves.

Unlike the Certification of Administration program I enrolled in several years ago-which involved the typical and dry reading and writing assignments-the professors in the Gallaudet University Administration & Supervision Department have a wealth of hands-on management and leadership experiences to share with us. "What administrative experiences would you like to share with us?" starts the evening lectures, and leads to laughter, tears, shock, and awe. We learned to "read" people and determine their personality traits in order to work with and manage effectively-a skill I am now developing in my work force! Managing conflicts, communicating in groups effectively, and writing simple memos are so much a part of what this program prepares us to become stellar administrators! I am thankful for the heart-filled lectures and support from this program professors and staff. |
OUR ALUMNI
From the board rooms of America 's blue-chip corporations, the resounding cry goes out: "People are our most valuable assets." And from the classrooms of Gallaudet's premier leadership and management training programs in the Department of Administration and Supervision the resounding cry goes out, "We touch the future by molding the leadership potential of today's outstanding professionals." Our graduates are our lasting legacy and ambassadors of change in the fields of special education administration, change-leadership, instructional supervision, and human services administration. More than 90% of our graduates are employed in the field for which they were specifically trained. They work as school principals, superintendents of schools for the deaf, staff in the U.S. Department of Education, and we even have two graduates who are college presidents. Our graduates also represent great diversity in their backgrounds. We have graduates from all over the world, including Thailand , Africa , China , and Europe . We have graduates who are deaf, hearing impaired, and hearing. In fact, our department was identified as having the most diverse student population on the entire Gallaudet campus. We are proud of our graduates and their accomplishments and we keep in touch with them on an annual basis through a survey. We use the results of our alumni survey to make improvements in our curricula.
